It was so nice to check into my Airbnb and have a real shower and do some much needed laundry…in an actual washing machine;-). The views out of the window of Mont Blanc were amazing. Waking up rested and recharged I walked to the train station and set out on breaking in my Eurail PassContinue reading “Switzerland”

TMB day 10 and the Ladders
The Auberge La Boerne is such a cool place. After the pounding decent, it was awesome to sit outside with a beer on such a nice day. Have really been spoiled with the weather this trip after seeing all the rain forecasted. Had a great dinner that night with Peyton, Yolanda and a nice coupleContinue reading “TMB day 10 and the Ladders”
TMB day 9
Got started early that morning for the knee jarring decent into Trient. Thought I was on the right trail until after a 20min climb out of town, I looked down and saw people hiking through a beautiful valley below me. Oops. Consulted Alltrails and decided I didn’t want to do the Alternative that added 3kContinue reading “TMB day 9”
TMB day 8
Chalet la Grange d’Alice above Champex was amazing! It was a recently expertly renovated barn. Better yet, I had the whole bunk room to myself this time :-). Things were definitely looking up! Plus, easily the best shower of the trip so far. Great dinner with a couple from NZ that was staying in theContinue reading “TMB day 8”
TMB day 7
The night at Gite la Lechere was amazing. It was such a cute, cozy place. There were only 5 of us staying there, so it was the quietest dorm of the trip so far. Peyton from Walter Bonatti was here again and I think everyone was tired after the big climb the day before. WakingContinue reading “TMB day 7”
Random thoughts from the trail
So in trying to write these posts a few weeks after the trip, I realized there were some holes in the narrative 🙂 So here goes! When you feel the first hint of a blister, stop and check it out. Taking care of your feet is hugely important on treks like this. This golf ballContinue reading “Random thoughts from the trail”
TMB day 6
So Walter Bonatti is a special place. The views are gigantic. Before dinner there, a horse decided to walk into the lobby and snake some bar snacks :-). We had a great, lively dinner and then headed off to sleep. Downside was that we were packed in like sardines on our side of the room.Continue reading “TMB day 6”
TMB day 5
Was so gassed from the double climb in the rain that my sleep was crappy. Seems like the first half of the night my body was in damage control :-). The only other time that I remember that happening was last summer after I gassed myself in the Sawtooths with an overloaded pack. The downhillContinue reading “TMB day 5”
TMB day 4
After a not very comfortable night in the de La nova creaky bunk room, I set out after breakfast wearing my goretex “breathable” rain pants for the first time. These lasted all of 20 mins as they became my personal sweat sauna :-). Was a gradual uphill until the days first climb started…and it wasContinue reading “TMB day 4”
TMB day 3
Great night of sleep in the lovely Nant Borant. After an enhanced version of the usual bread and butter breakfast, it was off to the trail with a big climb to tackle today! Was a beautiful walk up the head of the valley before the meat of the climb to Col Bonhomme started. Then itContinue reading “TMB day 3”
